FR tho, soljiwan is really GOLD and i’m supposed to work on my thesis revision, internship and this competitive coding bootcamp i got accepted at but my mind is so overwhelmed with all soljiwan scenes these days that i can’t really focus
Enemies-to-lovers, but instead of featuring a villain redemption arc, the heroic one is getting progressively more corrupt, unhinged and fucked up, and the one who was originally the clear-cut villain out of the two is just like “well mark me down as scared and horny”
The BEST line. I love these kinds of scenes, when for most of it they’re going one way, in this case, a long plea from Ji-wan, and then you get a single moment that completely reframes the whole thing, that as emotional as Ji-wan was, Sol is already beyond that.
Oh, yes, I would have loved to see Sol’s hand twitching forward with how much she does want to but keeping herself back.
The shirt pulling was VITAL.
I feel like this moment will be the standout from their relationship, akin to the belt loop tug for another certain ship.
Oh, yes! At first I was like, ah, we can see the tear tracks, nice, but then we see the whole tear fall!
I honestly can’t praise her enough, the whole scene was perfectly done, the right amount of drunk haziness mixed with sincere despair and confusion at where she’s finding herself.
And another anon:
The swallow that Sol does when Ji Wan asks who her favorite person is lol She’s so stressed
Hee, there’s this whole consecutive set of asks just pointing out individual moments from this scene which just shows how effective it was.
I noticed that swallow too! It was such a longass scene and you’ll probably have noticed it’s more than 10 gifs (or 10 and a bonus), the second time I’ve ever done that, I try to keep the size and length down but this scene just could be broken up for me, or parts of it cut out.
Including that swallow! Man, if she thought Ji-wan staring at her was too intense, I can’t imagine what this moment felt like, with Ji-wan all up close and an arm around her waist, confessing how Sol’s her favorite person.
The agonizing dichotomy of the childhood best friend trope! Where the simple pleasure of their friendship and the hope for more war with the guilt of wanting more and the fear of that hope being unfounded. She’s being placed in such an impossible position!
I think it’d be incredibly funny if Nevertheless was, in the end, a story abt how heterosexual stereotypical ‘love’ is toxic and it was a front all along for the actual love story which is a wlw romance of two best friends figuring out they are in love with each other in a way that’s more fleshed out and emotionally complex & moving than the 'main pairing’ lol that’d be hilarious. con of the century I’d say.
